Perhaps not suitable for ALL of the family (recommended age is 8+) younger children may find some aspects a little spooky but fantastic day out and reasonably priced at £18.50 for adults and £13.50 childrenBuilt in 1779 for King George III, Bodmin Jail has played a crucial role in Cornwall’s history.

Explore and discover this infamous jail and learn about its dark beginnings. As with most old prisons, Bodmin Jail has a dark history. 55 executions took place within its formidable walls, for crimes such as murder, rape and stealing. Eight of these were women. Most of these executions were viewed by the public, and thousands would travel specially to witness the hangings.

Immerse yourself in Cornwall’s dark history in the new Dark Walk with state of the art theatrical effects that bring some of the grimmest stories vividly to life.

The Bodmin Jail Experience includes:

The Dark Walk – The ‘Dark Walk’, the first of its kind in Cornwall, uses theatrical effects and the latest technology to transport visitors back to Cornwall’s murky past.

The Naval Wing – face a cold walk along into the jail’s original Naval Wing, getting a first-hand look at what the dreary days and nights behind bars were really like.

The Administration Block – delve into the fascinating background of the people who served, worked and lived at Bodmin Jail, with hidden stories and myths of Cornwall, Bodmin and the historic jail building from an operational perspective.

The Last Moments – there’s a chill of the condemned as the path follows the last footsteps of the 55 prisoners as they were led to the hanging pit. The only fully-working Victorian Hanging Pit in the UK is a time for real reflection.

Optional tours and experiences take you on a Cyder making journey – from apple to Cyder! Take a tractor ride through our Orchards, and sample over 60 varieties of Cyder, wine, spirits and preserves.

4. Savoy Cinema Penzance

5. Geevor Tin Mine 

This preserved mining site features a museum, underground tour and visitor center all perched on the rugged cliffs of Penwith, offering magnificent coastal views high above the crashing surf below. Also there is a cafe that serves delicious breakfast options, I would recommend you book a table in advance.

6. Bodmin Keep

Bodmin Keep, has been standing proudly near the centre of town for over 160 years. The original army keep & historic home of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry (DCLI) has buzzed with military activity for generations. A place to connect generations Built in 1859, the building has buzzed with military activity throughout the ages, making it Bodmin’s most prestigious historic building. Today, behind the imposing high walls, it’s home to a fascinating collection that tells the stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. A museum that inspires and connects young and old visitors with hands-on experiences, tales of the everyday, the incredible, and memories brought to life!

And of course, there’s the lido itself: our heated outdoor pool, where you can float, unwind, and soak in the beautiful natural light.

Come along during the day for an energising swim, followed by a lounge and leisurely lunch, or visit us in the evening for a dip, dinner and drinks as the sun goes down.
